Volunteers stand next to a pantry full of food at Joshua's Place in South Lebanon.

Joshua's Place

South Lebanon, Ohio

Joshua's Place started as a free food pantry in 2008 in South Lebanon, Ohio, in the Cincinnati metro area, serving just a few families.

Joshua's Place quickly realized that fighting hunger was important, but more was needed to truly assist families struggling with poverty and overcome the barriers preventing those families from reaching stability.

Over 15 years the program has grown to include weekend food programs; the Care Closet providing kids snacks and beverages during the day as well as items like personal hygiene products for junior high and high school students; tutoring programs and afterschool reading literacy programs; summer camps; an adult food cooperative; and adult development courses.

More than just material things, Joshua's Place is establishing relationships with people to help them overcome poverty.

The nonprofit works closely with 5 local school districts to identify and reach families needing help. Joshua's Place now has about 500 volunteers and more than 30 churches that participate.
